The Role:

We are seeking an experienced Sterilising Services Unit (SSU) Educator to support the perioperative and sterilising teams in providing excellent service in the delivery and education of sterilised equipment and medical devices for the successful operation of the perioperative complex.

The SSU Educator role will be responsible for key accountabilities such as:

  • Provide regular education, orientation and individual assessment to staff, and ongoing review of staff performance, identifying learning achievements and development requirements
  • Provision of a structured in-servicing program to SSU staff
  • Development and facilitation of learning plans and education resources in conjunction with the Nurse Educator, Perioperative Services and Manager, SSU
  • Support the SSU Manager in meeting target KPIs and the effective and efficient management of consumables and repair of general instruments.
  • Participation in quality and audit programs within SSU
  • Participation in the development and review of department specific documents (including policies/procedures/safe work procedures/competencies/learning packages etc)
  • Development of yearly education action plan to track education activities within the department in conjunction with the overall Perioperative Department education plan
  • Maintain involvement in hospital, program, and unit committees and provides relevant feedback to the staff

To be considered for this position, you will demonstrate the below requirements in your CV and a 1-2 page cover letter:

  • Demonstrated relevant and current experience in Sterilising (minimum 5 years), including facilitating the education of SSU staff.
  • Extensive understanding of competencies in compliance with ACHS standard 3.18 and AS 4187:2014, Infection Control, WHS and other compulsory competencies.
  • Proven ability to coordinate staff to achieve compliance with annual mandatory competency requirements
  • Stakeholder management skills, ensuring that multiple people with different agendas are working efficiently to the same end
  • Demonstrated ability to be flexible and adapt to changing circumstances
  • Demonstrated effective interpersonal communication skills within a multidisciplinary team
  • Demonstrated ability to set priorities, establish and achieve agreed objectives
  • Demonstrated motivational and problem solving skills
  • Evidence of professional development commensurate with the level of autonomy and authority expected of the position
  • Ability to lead others in recording and communicating essential information to nursing colleagues and other health professionals
  • Excellent computer literacy
  • Membership of relevant professional organisations (eg (ACORN/GENCA/ACIPC)
